Laser Treatment Program Has Arrived

Orthopaedic Surgery Associates is pleased to announce their recent acquisition of LIghtForce™️XLi , a highly recognized medical grade laser used for treatment of orthopaedic problems.  Class 4 lasers work on tissues through a process known as PhotoBioModulation.  This therapeutic technique uses specific wavelengths of red and near-infrared light to stimulate cellular healing.  It does so by directly activating the mitochondria of cells to produce more chemical energy.  This leads to improved blood flow to target tissues, and significant anti-inflammatory effects, thereby leading to pain reduction over the course of treatment.  It simply activates biologic pathways that are already present in our cells, using simple wavelengths of light under high power.  These specific wavelengths of light can stimulate the cell nucleus to produce collagen, a necessary structural element of tissue healing.

Dr. Brandon Luskin, a partner at OSA, who has pioneered our LightForce™️class 4 laser program, is excited by the tremendous potential this treatment platform will have at treating many of the conditions we see, without medications, injections, or even surgery.  “There is a growing body of scientific research to support our Orthopaedic Surgery Group moving in this direction. Our patients deserve options that are at the forefront of the evolving scientific technologies.”  Many patients are already familiar with red light therapy or cold laser therapy, which cannot penetrate past the skin.  OSA’s LightForce™️ program uses class 4 laser technology which sends similar wavelengths of light but has been proven to penetrate much deeper into tissues where these other light treatment types cannot get.

Class 4 laser therapy is utilized by professional athletes around the world to expedite recovery from major injuries and is recognized for its potential to treat other ortho conditions such as arthritis, tendonitis, ligament sprains.  Another exciting way Class 4 lasers are being used is during the post-op period from surgical procedures to expedite surgical recovery.

A LightForce™️ treatment program is typically two sessions per week for 3 weeks.  Given the extreme power of this technology, each treatment session takes less than 10 minutes.  After the initial 6 treatments, patients have the option of adding additional treatments if they have not reached treatment goals.  “People have actually cancelled scheduled surgeries” said Dr. Luskin.  “We are all very busy docs and are actually happy for our patients when this occurs” he added.  “It’s a win-win for everyone.”

At present, like many new technologies, Class 4 laser therapy is not presently covered by most insurance plans including Medicare.  That being said, it is generally inexpensive when compared to many other types of elective treatments such as stem cell or PRP therapy which have also enjoyed significant recent inerest.  Access to OSA’s LightForce™️ program must be through referral by one of OSA’s doctors, to make sure that a correct diagnosis is known for your condition, for an appropriate treatment dosing protocol to be established for your condition.
